AIRFIELD FACILITIES AT HONG KONG
8
SIR CHARLES PORTAL said that it was clear that in the immediate future airfield facilities at Hong Kong were likely to be inadequate to provide fully for all requirements. He circulated a draft telegram to Admiral Harcourt drawing attention to this fact, making certain recommendations for improving and extending airfield facilities, and requesting an immediate review of the airfield situation at Hong Kong, of which a report should be sent to the Chiefs of Staff.
In discussion it was suggested that a sentence should be added to the telegram to the effect that the Chinese appeared to be expecting airfield facilities, but as far as could be judged from here it did not look as if these could be provided.
THE COMMITTEE:-
Approved the terms of the draft telegram to
Admiral Harcourt, as amended in discussion, and instructed the Secretary to arrange for its despatch.
