His Excellency the President of the Republic of China of the arrangements which are being made for the coordination on operational matters to which I referred in my
Your conversation with Dr. K.C. Wu on August 20th. Excellency will have seen the short merorandum I left with Dr. Wu on that occasion.
I should be grateful thereforci:?
A be so
good as to inform the Generalissimo that the British Chiefs of Staff undertake, so far as the facilities of the port allow, to give full facilities through the Hong Kong area, and every possible assistance and support, to any Chinese and American forces who may still be either engaged against the enemy or involved in operations to secure the surrender of Japanese forces in contiguous areas. The British Chiefs of Staff also undertake to make themselves responsible on the British side for setting up arrangements to establish coordination with the Generalissimo and the Chinese High Command on these matters.
Finally I am to state that the British Chiefs of Staff have made a communication in a similar sense to the United States Chiefs of Staff in Washington.
