6. Chiang Kai-shek listened to my arguments but was unmoved by them. I feel sure he will not abandon his position. I pointed out that he was in effect asking me to put before you again a proposal (for delegation of his powers) which you had already considered and felt unable to accept, He on his side felt it impossible to recede from the position he had taken up.
