Mr. Dening No. 409
Sunndals
MOST IMMEDIATE.
Following Associated Press message from
Chungking, dated August 22nd, has received
publicity here. Begins.
The Chinese surrender terms to the
Japanese issued tonight disclose that Marshal
Chiang Kai-shek's forces will occupy Hongkong
and the enemy's island fortress of Formosa,
as well as Northern Indo-China and a small
part of Siam.
The British authorities in Chungking
declined to comment on the inclusion of
Hongkong as one of the areas to be occupied by
the Chinese. A Chinese Army spokesman
declared that Hongkong was in the China theatre
and the High Command "naturally assumed
responsibility to accept the Japanese surrender
there".
