Later on when Mr. Woo wrote to the Embassy at Chungking asking for a claim for war damages against Japan to be registered there, he received an unfor- tunately worded reply which caused a certain amount of bad blood. Eventually, however, Mr. Farmer himself intervened at the Embassy and matters were put right.
