Refers to Foreign office telegram No. 940 of 10th April (F 2805/888/10). Message from the Swiss Chargé d'Affaires at Shanghai stating that the directors of the Kailan Mining Company at Tientsin wish to know if the British Government would raise objection to British subjects continuing the ir employment with the Company under Japanese control, and they wish the South Chinese Mining Engineering Company at Exeter to be informed and instructions to be telegraphed.

We have already indicated to the company that we regard as iniquitous the arrangement by which the employees in China agreed to work for the Japanese against their own country. See F 1302/456/10. There is no need therefore to consult the company, or to ask them to send a reply to this enquiry.
