hardship or inconvenience to Chinese
nationals.
In particular, every effort
will be made to avoid delay to distinguished
Chinese officials and other personalities
entering Hong Kong, and in this connexion
I venture to suggest that the Chinese
authorities should advise the Hong Kong

expected arrival of such personages.

As regards entry into Hong Kong,
the position is that passports must now
be visa'd by a British authority to be
valid for Hong Kong, but where persons
do not hold passports applications for
entry permits can be made at many entry
points besides Hong Kong including Taipo
and other places on the northern land frontier,
though the actual permits are issued at
Hong Kong, Taipo and Macao only. Special
arrangements have been made for merchants
who frequently pass in and out of Hong Kong
Grade

frontier passes valid for one year from the
