Green Island Cement Co.

Plant.

The firm have no demolition scheme in existence at present. The plant consists of modern cement- making machinery which would take at least six hours to destroy and require the assistance of at least 6 military personnel as there are only 4 Europeans available in the Company to undertake such work. This is the absolute minimum in time and personnel required to make the plant unworkable, and 10 hours and 14 extra nen would be required to make certain that nothing of value was left.

Stocks. No demolition scheme exists. The main items

requiring destruction are 12,000 tons of cement in 8 silos, 5,000 tons of coal, and spares for the machinery. The only item which could be dealt with in the minimum scheme is the destruction of the cement silos by explosives, to allow the contents to run into the sea. This demolition could be carried out during the 6 hours mentioned above by the same personnel. If more time is available, the store containing the machinery spares would be burnt and this could be carried out during the 10 hours mentioned above. No rapid means of demolishing coal stocks exist and the only solution would be to dump the coal into the sea. This would take a considerable time and involve the use of much transport and labour, both of which would probably not be available. It is considered that the coal stocks will have to be left.

State of schemes.

These have been discussed with the Secretary and Works Kanager of the Company and a detailed scheme is now in course of preparation.

China Light & Power Generating Station.

Plant. The Company have already prepared a demolition

scheme involving two stages. The first is the putting out of action of 5 of their 6 turbines, leaving the sixth to supply power to the H.W.D. and Green Island Cement Co. for their demolition

schemes.

This stage will take 6 hours.

The second stage is the putting out of action of the sixth turbine which will take į hour.

17 Europeans are available for this scheme and no further assistance is required.

The Company have 30,000 tons of coal, but nothing can be done to dispose of these stocks, The remarks on this subject in connection with the Green Island Cement Co. apply evan more strongly in view of the much larger stocks. Valuable spares will be removed as far as possible, the total tonnage being 10.

State of Schemes.

Draft schemes are already in existence and could be put into action at once. The schemes have been discussed with the manager and the Executive Engineer.

V.S. Bailey & Co.

Plant.

No demolition scheme exists. This is a small shipyard and the only plant requiring demolition is the gas engine supplying power for the shops, and the electric motors which supply power for the large and small slipways. These electric motors run from the China Light & Power Co's supply.
