Dear Hollte,
My secret letter of the 7th October about the reinforcement of Hong Kong.
When your secret letter of the 4th October was submitted here the question was raised of informing the Americans of what was proposed. I assume that this will be done in any case at some stage through the usual military channels, but I should be grateful if you would let me know at what stage and through what particular channel. We should like to let our Embassy in Washington know about the same time and to inform Sir Robert Craigie and Sir Archibald Clark Kerr at some stage before the reinforcements arrive.
