Dr. Chen, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy,

informed me to-day that the Embassy had been

instructed to request that, as the passports of

Chinese nationals residing in or travelling to

and from Hongkong are not now subject to the

regulation requiring British consular visas, the

clause requiring visas might be deleted from the

regulations or the phrase "Chinese excepted"

inserted in it.
