Defence of Hong Kong: Chinese offers of assistance.
Transmits copy Hong Kong telegram No. 7468 of 11th July reporting that he is from time to time approached by Chinese Government Representatives with offers of military assistance from Chinese Army in event of attack on Hong Kong. Offers are made with knowledge of Chiang Kai Shek. Outlines attitude
he is adopting towards such offers.
In his view assistance from Chinese is unlikely to be effective but if it is wished to follow question further, suggests that correct channel is through Assistant Military Attachè Chungking.
