Addressed to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia repeated to Consul General Manila To. 7 Secretary of State for the Colonies No. 401. My telegram of 8th July. Evacuation. Scheme is being considered for evacuation of wives and children of Chinese Residents with record of service to Hong Kong thought to justify exceptional treatment. includes families, past and present members of Councils, Justices of the Peace, serving members of Hong Kong volunteer Force etc. Maximum total 1,500 but probably much less of whom about half are British subjects. Should need arise would your Government be prepared to relax restrictions to permit entrance for limited poriod of all or some of these persons. It is hoped to find another destination for British sub jeta of Portuguese descent.
