Refers to Foreign Office despatch No. 77 of 21st June, 1935 (F3 17 8/6/10 ). Transmits copy letter of 12th July from Mercantile Bank of India on subject. On that date Consul-General George held deposit receipt in joint names of His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General and Bank for sum of $12,000 deposited at call with Central Bank of China and also held deposit receipt for sum of $300,000 deposited at call with Central Bank of China, in joint names of Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China and His Britannic Majesty's Consul-General Shanghai, as security for note issue of that Bank.
