Rogers in telegram No.91 from Hongkong says that he is very anxious to know the result of our enquiries in Tokyo as to whether the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan share the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs views in connection with the Chinese currency. You will remember that in our telegram No:376 to Tokyo we suggested that Samsom might make some discrete soundings on this question.

We also would be glad to know whether Samson has had any success. May I therefore ask you to send a short reminder to Tokyo?
