I live in Tung Tau Village, but I have a lot of land

outside the Ma Tau Chung Camp. At 12 noon on that day, I left

the camp external quarters, where I had just been selling

chickens. I heard whistles blown and I saw a man climbing up

a fence. I think he was trying to get away. I saw a European

police officer and I heard guns. I was frightened and ran away.

I am supervisor of Ma Tau Chung Internment Camp for past

13 months.

The camp contains 740 odd internees, who have been

inmates for the same period. Notices have been posted up warning

internees that they were likely to be killed if they attempt to

escape. These instructions are well known by internees and this

has been brought here to them when internees have been killed

on previous occasions as they attempted to escape.
