SECRET

FOREIGN OFFICE, S.W. 1..

16th May, 1939.

I have discussed with Blackburn the question

of the Crown Advocate about which you wrote to

Nigel Ronald in your personal letter of the 4th

April.

Blackburn considers, and I agree with him,

that Priestwood being the drinker he apparently

is, is bound to put his neck into the noose before

long, whereupon you can pull it tight and we can

dispose of him with a clear conscience.

You, and particularly Phillips, might therefore

keep an eye open for his next lapse and utilise

it as above.

Sir A. Clark Kerr, K. C.M.G.

(Signed) R. G. HOWE.
