My dear Ambassador,
Having been asked my views on the Crown Advocate,
I have considered the matter very carefully and I write to
explain my feelings in regard to a possible change.
/
when I first arrived here in september,1937, I
was asked to make a confidential report should the present
Occupant shew any signs of alcoholic excess, but although at
times I have had my suspicions no sufficient evidence nas
been forthcoming which would justify my making an unfavourable
report. And yet I cannot conceal my feelings that Priestwood
is not really a satisfactory type. To begin with I have o
particular reliance on his judgment and comparing him with
other Crown Advocates that I have known he ranks away behind
them.
My feeling of dissatisfaction is chiefly due to
the difficulty which has on several occasions occured of
ir. Priestwood becoming ill and remaining in his house
"incommunicado". Application to his secretary at his office
His Excellency, Sir Archibald Clark merr, a.C.M.G.
