Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Dated 2nd June. Received 7.6 8.4., 2pa June, 1969.

No. 162.

Addressed to Canton No. 63 of the 2nd June

repeated to the Secretary of State for the Colonies No -

162, Tokyo No.47, Shanghai No. 65. Your telegram No. 189,

I fall entirely to understand how the Japanese

Consul General at Canton or any other considerable Japanese

authority could give credence to the rumour that the use of

the Hong Kong aerodrome would be permitted to Chinese or

Japanese Military aeroplanes, This obviously ebeurd story

has been repeated by the Japenese Consul General thic

morning to the Colonial Secretary and I instructed the

latter to express my surprise and resentment at the

imputation against this Colony's neutral attitude whion hae

always been strictly maintained.
