Sir,
With reference to the letter dated April 18th
(F 3262/3262/10) on the subject of Chinese students,
I have been in communication with Mr. Brander, the
Secretary of the Universities Bureau of the British
Empire, and he has informed me that he has taken up
the question of the Chinese and similar students with
the Vice-Chancellors, but I have not yet heard with
what result.
In so far as the Chinese students are
university students, the Foreign Office may prefer
to communicate with Mr. Brander direct. If any of the
students are attending non-university institutions like
the London Polytechnics or the Manchester College of
Technology which are within the Board's purview, the
Board will be glad to be informed of the numbers and
institutions involved in order that the question of
