An Ordinance to make provision with respect to

commulsory service.

BE it enacted by the Governor of long ong, with the advice and consent of the egislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1.

This Ordinance may be cited as the Compulsory Service Ordinence. 1939.

2.- (1) In this Ordinance

civil servant" means a British subject who is in the employment of the Goverment of the Colony and whose whole time in at the disposal of the Government;

"Dominion means a Doginion" within the meaning of the statute of Westminster, 1931;

"enrolment lista" means the lists

referred to in section 10;

essential services" menng such gervices as may for the time being, in the opinion of the Governor in ouncil, be essential to the life of the community;

"proper authority" means the person whom, for the purposes of sections 5,6,7,9 nd 10, the Governor may apoint;

"proper military authority" means the person whom, for the purposes of sections S and 11, the senior military officer for the time being in command of His Majesty's resular troops in the Colony may appoint;

"reserve" means the long Kong Defence Reserve created by this ordinance.

(2) A person residing in the Colony shall be doemed to be ordinarily resident therein unless he proves that he is residing there only for the purpose of attending a
