DISCIPLINE.

The behaviour of the prisoners has been good

and there has been no occasion for the Visiting Committee

to intervene in this respect.

FOOD.

The food provided for foreign prisoners was

inspected frequently and found good.

A complaint was received from Mala Singh and

subsequently other prisoners that they were given congee or

gruel for their midday meal which was not their natural

food. Similar complaints have frequently been received in

the past and the Chairman informed them that the dietary

was laid down by the Rules governing the prison and it was

not within the competence of the Committee to vary them.

a complaint was received from a prisoner under

remand that he was receiving ordinary prison fare. He was

told that if he liked he could have all his food sent in to

him, but not part.

HS-L'H.

The health of the prisoners has been good.

One Indian prisoner asked that a time should be

set apart for prayers and that as he was illiterate Mala

Singh should be allowed to read to them from the Holy Book.

The Chairman arranged with the Governor that the

Police Granthi should hold a service for them on Sundays.

The further suggestion that daily lessons should be given
