MINISTRY OF HEALTH,
313 WHITEHALL, S.W.1.
3rd August, 1939.

5 AUG 1939
With reference to the Foreign Office letter of
May 5th (F.4131/3262/10) with regard to Chinese students, I am
directed by the Minister of Health to say that the Government
scheme for evacuation in time of emergency provides for
certain priority classes only, namely, School children,
children of pre-school age with their mothers, expectant
and
mothers, adult blind and cripples, so far as their removal may
be feasible.
Plans for the transfer of students from the
University of London are being made by the University
Authorities and it is suggested that they might be approached
with regard to those Chinese students for whom a special
responsibility is felt, with a view to seeing if they can be
included in the University's arrangements.
The Under-Secretary
for Foreign Affairs,
Foreign Office,
Whitehall, S.W.1.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
G. & Healt
