Below barrier. At the moment there is no

Japanese guard ship in Haimen area and the cne British
steamer is getting full cargo. Little trade elsewhere and
discrimination against British ships.
Nanking. Anti British demonstration in army lorries took place 22nd July. Japanese military police presented verbal apology to British Consul on 23rd July.
Considerable Guerilla activity is
Kiukiang.
reported and small troop movements are constantly taking
place.
Hankow. Evacuation of troops and military stores on a large scale down river appears to indicate abandonment of Changsha and Han River offensives.
These troops are
being disembarked at Nanking and believed sent North by
Pukow railway.
Reported that these are experienced troops
and inferior troops are being left as garrisons at Yangtse
ports.
