foreigners in Hong Kong to obtain their veiws." The

Japanese Military pseudo language study officer in Hong

Kong still retains his staff of "personal attendants" and

all are doing much travelling to Canton and Macau.

An espionage agent, formerly stationed in Hong Kong as a

newspaperman, returned for a short while during the quarter

and was seen to study Japanese trade in local shops.

Bank of Japan officials visited the Colony in November to

inspect economic conditions in Hong Kong and Macau, and a

man who calls himself manager of the Young Men's Diplomatic

Association has come to investigate diplomatic affairs.

Local firms are still importing Japanese goods and there

are reports of Indian dealers applying their own names to

goods of Japanese manufacture. The Peace Pledge Union's

local branch held a peace week in November, but received

no serious support.
