Dear Roothem,
On receipt of Syers' letter of the 25th November, 1938, we asked the Embassy et Shanghai what they knew
of the World Peace Prayer Conference.
sent us the following minute:-
In reply they
WORLD PEACE PRAYER COMFERENCE,
"The address is sufficiently suspect Boone
"Road, i.e. north of the Creek.
"The Society dates from many years back, and was "formed by corrupt circles drawn mainly from the old
"Peiyang political party in the North.
"The Tuan Szetsun referred to is, I understand,
"most probably Tuan Cheng-yuan who is still alive and
"is a quite influential man in Peking where he has for
"yeers past preached sham religion and associated with
"the reactionary and militarist elements.
