Japanese continue to make fairly reguler air flights over

the city; no further bombing reported. In the

circumstances, cargo is now offering in larger quantity.

Hoihow remains a "closed" port and the Japanese will not

permit steamers to anchor in the harbour or have any

communication with the shore. However, British vessels

continue to call at Hoihow to show the "flag".

Except for the fortnightly sailing, i.e., a

British river steamer permitted to operate and to carry

passengers and baggage only, at the discretion of the

Japanese, the Canton River remains "closed" to foreign

tonnage. The Japanese, however, have frequent arrivals

which discharge rice, beer, marine products, etc., and

load whatever cargo, including scrap iron, that offers.
