I received Colonel Ishino ostensibly language (?regular officer) in (?IIong Kong) this morning. He came to

express apologies from General Ando on recent bombing.

as from one soldier to another and without prejudice or

reference to conversations

between London and Tokio.

Interview

took place in my house in plain clothes. After Ishino had

expressed apologies I emphasised importance of better

arrangements to give us previous notice of operations

contemplated in frontier area.
