The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign
Affairs presents his compliments to the Secretary
to the Board of Trade, and, with reference to the
letter from the Board of the 15th instant, is
directed by the Secretary of State to inform him
that no objection is seen to the issue of a licence
for the export of the goods to which the application
No.E.L.234993 enclosed therein relates.
2. The goods in question being for the use
of the Shanghai Municipal Council and therefore for
the defence of the International Settlement, the
Secretary of State is of the opinion that the
countersignature of the Chinese Ambassador is not
required.
