On 21st February some Japanese aeroplanes flew over the border of the British Leased Territory near Shamchun and dropped several bombs, killing several persons and damaging a train. Two Chinese were killed by machine gun fire.

On the same day His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton was informed by Japanese colleague of the readi- ness of the military authorities to make amends. Mean- while the British Ambassador at Tokyo protested, and the Japanese Government have replied and promised, in- vestigation and compensation. They have now been in- formed that the incident is regarded as settled.
