Naturalisation in Hong Kong

It is now six months since my letter of

flag 6th November last to Mr. Dixon in IMM/CR 1521 SF'A'

171

and I thought I would bring you up to date on our progress in disposing of the backlog of naturalisation

cases.

Attached is an updated version of the table which was enclosed with my earlier letter. You will see from this that the number of applications outstanding has been reduced from 1,671 when I last wrote to 1,131 at the end of April. This latter figure is made up as follows :

No. of Applications

(a)

Being processed in Hong Kong

856

(b)

With you in London

123

(or on their way to

and fro)

(c)

Awaiting oath taking

152

and issue of cert.

1,131

The number of applications being processed in Hong Kong (856) is the equivalent of just over 10 months' applications. I hope to reduce this to the equivalent of 6 months' applications, that is about 500 cases, but it will not be possible to reduce it any further because of the time taken for Police and other checks.
