A 187 acre pleasure park and oceanarium

in magnificent scenery on a southern

promontory of Hong Kong Island is nearing

completion.

A network of some 200 community, social and

youth centres, and games halls, and numerous

supporting clubs has been established by

the Government and Urban Council and sub-

vented agencies and the number is steadily

growing.

e) The Government has a target of one swimming

pool complex per 250,000 people each

complex containing a sufficiently large number

of pools to cater for up to 20,000 attendances

in one day. Seven are already in operation and

two more are under construction.

A District Recreation Service has been set

up to organise and maximise the use of

facilities for recreation in urban and rural

areas.

In parallel, in order to provide a week-end

lung for the urban population, the Government

is building picnic sites and country parks

are being established in wide areas of the

unspoilt New Territories (the number of

visitors to country-side recreation areas

exceeds millio3 year), and a series of 203
