Special to THE NEW YORK TIMES. HONG KONG, Feb. 6-Sir Alex- ander Grantham, Governor of! Hong Kong, expressed tonight this British Crown Colony's "profound: sorrow” over the death of George, VI. Sir Alexander dispatched the following message to the Secre- tary of State for Colonies in Lon- jdon:

"Please convey to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the members of the Royal Family the profound sorrow of the people of Hong Kong and myself at the death of His Majesty King George VI and their deepest sympathy with them in their bereavement."

The news of the King's death reached this Far Eastern colony at 7 P. M., local time. As the British subjects mourned, the Eng- lish and Chinese language news- papers prepared to publish morn- ing editions with the King's photo- graph and eulogistic

eulogistic editorials bordered in black.
