COLOMBO EXHIBITION:
RECIPIENT COUNTRIES DISPLAYS.

In addition to displays mentioned in today's LPS Transmission Plus are many
others from "recipient" countries showing their respective resources and
achievements. Viet Nam and Laos are represented by individual pavilions. There
are number interesting, models in Viet Nam Pavilion including one showing well-
planned colony for workers, Prominent among country's resources are tea, rubber,
coffee and minerals, Educational facilities are being increased. In 1950/51 there
were 24,400 pupils in secondary schools against just over 7,000 in 1948/49.
Political advance of country towards constitutional monarchy is illustrated as
also handicaps imposed by campaign against Viet Minh.
One of problems facing Laos is restoration war damage. Economy of Laos is
supported by agricultural and forest products and some minerals including
tin. With view overcoming lack of communications railway scheme been adopted.
At present Laos has no railway's.

Among other territories South-East Asia taking part in Exhibition are
Federation of Malaya, Singapore,North Borneo, Sarawak and Brune. These territories
are represented by composite Pavilion divided into five sections.
