The Colonial Defence Committee are aware of the difficulty of preparing a complete scheme of defence for Mauritius at a time when the coast works are under revision and the existing armament is partially dismounted. As soon as the new defences are completed a fresh Report should be prepared embodying the matters above referred to, and giving a detailed account of the proposed distribution of the available force. Meanwhile, the questions raised in Remarks 1 and 2 should be referred to the War Office for consideration.
