CHIEFS OF STAFF COMMITTEE.
POSSIBLE GORMAN ACTION IN THE SPRING OF 1940. (Previous reference: Paper No. M.R.(J) (40)10).
Memorandum.
We have examined the Appreciation which has recently
been prepared by the Allied Military Committee on possible German Action in the Spring of 1940 and our comments are as follows.
We consider that the appreciation, which we understand represents the agreed views of the British and French representatives on the Allied Military Committee, provides a valuable background on which to base our future strategical planning.
2..
A paper of this mature inevitably contains a great deal of detail on which it would be possible to comment. These details, however, in our opinion are relatively unimportant and we have accordingly confined comment to those aspects of the appreciation which affect our strategical planning.
A general conclusion to be drawn from the Allied Military Committee's examination is that there is no new mor unexpected feature in possible German intentions. On the contrary, the appreciation is reassuring in that it confirms the fact that our plans have been based upon sound principles.
