WAR CABINET

CHIEFS OF STAFF COMMITTEE.

COMBINED OPERATIONS ALLOCATION OF SHIPS FOR

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAINING.

(02/153)

Note by the Adviser on Combined Operations.

Chiefs of Staff Committee.

It is necessary to have anchored off Toward Point an accommodation ship for T.L.C. crews as it is not possible for a whole crew to live permanently on board their craft, and yet they must be afloat to man their craft at short notice in the event of bad weather.

2.

To date one of the ships of "PILGRIM" Forces has been doing this duty. The ships of this Force, having been absorbed in "TRUNCHEON" and "ANKLET", are no longer available

3.

It is requested therefore that authority may be given for an accommodation ship to be requisitioned, as in this way only can the training of Tank Formations be carried out as originally planned.

4.

A further essential requirement, is an M.T. Ship at Inveraray for the training of R.E. Docks Operating Companies for which hitherto one of the "PILGRIM" Force ships has been used. Although the ideal would be two separate ships, one at Inveraray and one at Toward Point, it might be possible, in the interests of National economy, to use one ship for both requirements by sending the Docks Operating Companies to Toward Point as requisite.
