(2) Wellington.

The Wellington was over the target area for 30 minutes. The pilot and observer reported that the target was not visible at any stage of the flight from 6,000 feet or from 8,000 feet and aimed bombing attacks would accordingly have been impossible. The target was, however, seen from 2,000 feet and a low level attack would have been possible; but the generators had been extinguished prior to the time at which the observation was made. It was commented that the generators were considered to be too near the target for maximum efficiency.

The difficulty experienced by the Wellington crew in locating the target appears to be confirmed by the fact that the series of photographs which they took covered an area three miles south of the target. The crew has had operational experience and their activities include four visits to Berlin.

Note:-

The Reports by Aerial observers are attached as Annexes I to IV to this Appendix.
