THE MEETING

(a) Authorised the Chief of Naval Staff to reply to

Telegram: No. 6 "Glear" on the lines which he had proposed.

(b) Took note that the Prime Minister proposed to draft

a telegram to President Roosevelt, with

a view to its despatch at the appropriate moment, putting before him the

implications of Japanese attack on our trade routes in the Far East and in the Indian Ocean.

(c) Agreed to defer until the following week,

a decision on the Foreign Office formula defining our attitude in the event of a Japanese attack upon the Dutch East Indies.

2.

OPERATION COLOSSUS.

THE CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF explained the reasons why it had been imperative to take certain action in connection with Operation 'Colossus'.

THE MEETING took note of this statement.
