27 French 5.4" guns will also be made
available.
There are still a large number of places on the coast which require guns but have not yet got them.
GUNS REWIRE FOR MERCHANT SHIPS
4.7" and 4" guns are the most suitable for fitting in Merchant ships.
4.
The minimum
The present stock available is about 165. rate of fitting which the Admiralty can accept is 15 per week. This allows very few guns for Allied ships, and it is possible that the Admiralty may have to press for a faster rate.
The Admiralty do not anticipate that they will have to ask for the return of guns heavier than 4.7" except for a small number about which warning has been given.
