Decisions invited.
LANDING CRAFT.
11. We estimated that we should require the follow- ing total numbers of land- ing craft in the two theatres U.K. and Middle East:-
A.L.C. 210. S.L.C. 40.
M.L.C. 119.
(NOTE.-Eurekas were not
considered.)
Orders have been placed
for the following:-
A.L.C. 131. S.L.C. 24. M.L.C. 129. Eurekas 162.
In the light of further experience our revised requirements are:--
A.L.C. 210 (79 short). S.L.C. 38 (14 short). M.L.C. 113 (16 excess). Eurekas 104 (58 excess).
Approval is requested for the construction of the following landing craft to complete reserves after the present programme:~
A.L.C. 79. S.L.C. 14.
(Note. We consider that work on the M.L.C's. and Eurekas in excess should not be stopped since the Eureka is primarily a raiding craft and there- fore required by the D.C.O., while the surplus of M.L.C's. is small and very acceptable.)
Additional Requirements for Cross-Channel Operations involving
larger forces.
(Details are set out in Appendix III.)
BRUNETTES.
12.
The Admiralty have de-Approval to construct 70
signed a tank or vehicle Brunettes is invited. ferry known as the
Brunette.
For cross-Channel opera- tions we calculate we should require either:-
(a) About 300 more
T.L.Cs.; or
(b) About 70 Brunettes. The Brunette carries about 5 times as much as อ T.L.C., but should only cost about twice as much.
NOTE. All the above figures for landing craft include operational and training reserves and replacement due to casualties and wear and tear.
