ASSISTANCE TO TURKEY AND GREECE.

Note by Secretary.

During recent weeks Sir Michael Palairet has made continuous appeals for some assistance to be afforded to Greece against air attack, and the Foreign Office have pressed strongly that we should make a great effort to give the Grecks sono mabezial encouragement. We have been asked to

provide fighters, anti-aircraft guns and anti-tank guns, and failing this to facilitate purchase of these equipments in America.

We have been forced, by the necessity for concentrating available forces in the Middle East, to turn a deaf ear to all these appeals. Nevertheless, they still continue to come in and a letter from the Foreign Office of the 19th Octobert, covering a further telegram from Sir Michael Palairet, dated 17th October, is attached.
