(b) to occupy Ireland in order to establish bases for attack on shipping in the Western approaches, or en our West Coast ports and industries.

In either case, attempts might be made to land air-

simultan- borne troops at Dublin the seat of Government eously with seaborne attacks elsewhere, particularly at the following places:

Londonderry

Shannon Estuary

Cork.

SCALE OF ATTACK.

(a) Airborne Attack.

The scale of airborne attack is not likely to

exceed that given in paragraph 8(b) above for

the same reasons.

(b) Seaborne Attack.

The chances that the Germans would be successful

in landing in Eire an organised seaborne expedition from either Norway, Spain or France are not regarded as being very high. Nevertheless, if circumstances and weather conditions were favourable to the enemy, the Germans might be able to land a force of sufficient strength to pause us to employ considerable forces to dislodge it.

The I.R.. is likely to play an important part in conjunction with the German Organisation already in being in Eire.

INVASION.

in an invasion of 11. The principal enemy objective this country is likely to be the capture of London. likely objectives are the Industrial Midlands and the Industrial North.

To achieve this, beaches will be selected on which to land a wave of A.F.Vs carried in small, flat-bottomed craft, supported by troops carried in specially fitted merchant ships which can be run ashore to facilitate disembarkation.
