DESPATCH OF ROYAL MARINE BRIGADE.

Note by Secretary.

The Chiefs of Staff have proposed, and the Prime

Minister has agreed, that the Royal Marine Brigade shall be

despatched immediately to Ireland in the event of a call

for assistance from that country. The necessary shipping

for the Brigade is being sent to Milford Haven forthwith,

and instructions are being issued for such stores as are

possible to be loaded into the ships, so that the Brigade

can embark with the minimum delay when required to do so.

It has been agreed that the role of the Brigade is

to hold a bridge-head round a port at which, subsequently,

When these questions have been answered, it is pro-

posed that a Directive for the Royal Marine Striking Force

should be prepared for its Commander.
