NOTE BY SECRETARY.
IN paragraphs 12 to 20 of the annexed Memorandum, No. 459 M, dated the 2nd April, 1913, on the subject of the preparation of Defence Schemes for Australia, the Oversea Defence Cominittee have dealt with the question of the employment in time of war of such portions of the Australian military forces as may, with the consent of the Commonwealth Government, voluntarily agree to serve outside their home territories.
2. Before this Memorandum is forwarded to Australia the Oversea Defence Committee thought it desirable to obtain the approval of the Committee of Imperial Defence.
