APPENDIX.
Post Office to Committee of Imperial Defence.
(Secret.) Str,
General Post Office, London, March 6, 1913. I AM directed by the Postmaster-General to transmit, for the information of the Committee of Imperial Defence, a copy of a letter which has been received from the Russian Telegraph Administration in regard to the establishment of direct communi- cation by wireless telegraphy between Russia and the United Kingdom.
The letter has been referred to the Cables (Landing Rights) Committee for consideration, with a covering memorandum, of which a copy is also enclosed, and the Postmaster-General will be glad to learn whether the Committee of Imperial Defence would wish to consider the matter.
As you are aware, the Standing Sub-Committee on Cable Communications in time of War recommended (see paragraph 35 of Report dated the 11th December, 1911) that wireless communication should be established between this country and Norway, partly in view of the importance of maintaining communication with Russia and countries beyond in the event of interference with the Anglo-Norwegian cables.
The Secretary,
Committee of Imperial Defence.
(Signed)
I am, &c.
A. F. KING.
PRINTED AT THE FOREIGN OFFICE BY C. R. HARRISON.-19/8/1913.
