with coating a fabric with gold-beater's skin are most promising.
A large passenger Zeppelin loses about 100 lb. buoyancy per diem on this account, but the naval Zeppelin has gold-beater's skin bags, so this loss by effusion and diffusion is largely reduced.
It requires one day to deflate and reinflate a Zeppelin in Germany.

On the outbreak of war, the following German airships would in all probability be available at the present time:—
"
4 or 5 Government and 3 private Zeppelins.
4 Government and 4 private Parsevals.
4 Government military airships.
" 1 Siemens Schuckert.
"1 Schutte-Lanz.
“ Total 21 to 23 airships.
"There are a number of other airships built by private companies in Germany, but as they are of no great value they have not been included in the preceding list.
"A recent notice in the 'Danziger Neueste Nachrichten,' of the 5th December, states that work is proceeding at high pressure in the Zeppelin airship building yards at Friedrichshafen.

The
article continues that the Zeppelin passenger air- ship 'Sachsen,' at present under construction and destined for the Delag' (Zeppelin Passenger Airship Company), which was to have been "stationed at Dresden and Leipzig, is now to be made over to the military authority and to be completed in January; further, that two other military airships are to be ready in February and March.

'A number of vessels in this formidable array of airships would be capable of sailing from Germany "to Sheerness, Woolwich, or any other desired point "in England and return without the necessity of an แ 'intermediate descent to the earth.
"Since this report was dispatched a further wire "has been received from Sir E. Goschen stating that
"
an order has been placed for two more Schutte-Lanz 'rigid airships."
12. Subsidising Airships in Germany.
Recently in Germany arrangements have been made to subsidise privately owned airships. For instance, the “Victoria Luise" has lately carried out acceptance trials in connection with the subsidy. Government subsidies are also paid to all owners of airship sheds.
