as to making rate.

Supplemental as to Bating.

77. The additional regulations following shall be made as to rating. (1.) The rate books of a parish shall be kept in the prescribed

manner :

(2.) A precept for payment of a sum out of the consolidated rate 55 of a parish shall be in the prescribed form, and funds raisable for different purposes shall be classified in the prescribed manner, and under the prescribed names :

(3.) The overseers shall cause public notice to be given in the

prescribed manner and within the prescribed time of all precepts 10 served on them for payment of moneys out of the consoli- dated rate :

(4.) Any ratepayer may, within the prescribed time, appeal to a court of summary jurisdiction against any precept served on the overseers of his parish on the following grounds, and no other; 15 (a.) That the authority serving the precept has no legal

power to serve any such precept, or

(b.) Where such precept is for the purpose of raising a fund to which the parish is contributory in common with other parishes, on the ground that the sum required to be paid 20 by such precept is larger than the proportion which ought to have been required :

(5.) The court of summary jurisdiction appealed to may confirm,

disallow, or modify the precept appealed against:

(6.) The overseers shall give public notice in the prescribed form 25

of the amount of the annual consolidated rate.

(7.) Where a sum is levied on part of a parish included within the limits of a larger area, any expenses incurred in making a register of the ratepayers of such part of a parish, or other xpenses which would not be incurred if such sum were 30 payable out of the consolidated rate of the whole of the parish, shall be paid out of the general fund of which the sum levied is part:

(8.) Where a limit is imposed by Act of Parliament on the

amount in the pound of the rate to be levied for any purpose, 35 in estimating the contribution to be raised under this Act for the

purpose to which such rate was applicable regard shall be had to such limit, and the amount of such contribution shall be
