THE PERSIAN GULF.

(Previous

Reference: Cabinet 35 (28). Con- clusion 2.)

Lord Cushendun, acting for the Secretary

of State for Foreign Affairs, reminded the Cabinet of various disagreeable incidents which had occurred in the Persian Gulf during the Recess, particulars

of which had been circulated to his colleagues.

He recalled that the situation in the Persian Gulf

was under consideration by a Sub-Committee of the

Committee of Imperial Defence which would meet not

be fore October 15th. It was possible that an

attempt would be made to force us to arbitration on some of the questions outstanding with the Persian

Government, and he therefore felt that in due course

the Cabinet itself would have to give consideration

to this question.

In the course of a short discussion the hope

was expressed that the Government would on no

account be committed to an arbitration on Persian

affairs without previous discussion by the Cabinet.

(NOTE: In the absence of the Sec retary

of State for Foreign Affairs the Prime Minister has asked the Lord Chancellor to act as Chairman of the Persian Gulf Sub-Committee of the Committee of Imperial Defence, and has added Lord Cushendun to the Sub-Committee.)
