Anti-aircraft Guns for the Fleet.
10. The Cabinet had before them Note by the
Secretary (Paper 0.P.-232 (28)) covering the
following documents on the subject of the Basis
of Service Estimatea:-
A Note by the Secretary to the Committee of Imperial Defence summarising previous decisions on the subject (C.I.D. Paper No. 892-B):
An Extract from the Minutes of the 236th Meeting of the Committee of Imperial Defare held on July 5, 1928, containing the following recommendations:-
(1) That it should be assumed,
for the purpose of freming the Estimates of the Fight- ing Services, that at any given date there will be no major war for ten years.
(11) That this assumption should be reviewed annually by the Committee of Imperial Defence before the Estimates of the Fighting Services are drawn up, that is to say, not later than the month of June, and that it shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defence to remind the Prime Minister of this Conclusion at the appropriate moment and take his ins true- tions sa to placing the subject on the Agenda Paper of the Committee.
(iii) That it shall be the duty of
any Department in His Majesty's Government in Great Britain, no less than the right of the Government of any Dominion, to ask the Committee of Imperial Defence to review the above Conclusion at any other time if, in the opinion of any of then the circumstances had so changed as to render its application to the then existing conditions doubtful.
