I circulate for the information of the Cabinet an extract from a minute addressed to the Prime Minister by the Minister of Transport about the proposed Committee on Canals.

The Cabinet invited me (C, M. (55) 38th Conclusions, Minute 6) to ascertain whether Mr. Leslie Bowes would be prepared to accept appointment as Chairman of the proposed Canals Committee and, in that event, to discuss further with him the composition of the Committee in the light of the views expressed by the Cabinet.

2. Mr. Bowes has accepted my invitation to be Chairman and, after discussion with him, I would propose the following composition for the Committee, with which he agrees:-
